Holidays at last! The opportunity to leave the daily grind far behind. Lift your eyes up to the real mountains instead of being burdened by mountains of laundry, mountains of homework or mountains of paperwork. The Ammergau Alps offer wonderful experiences heaped with adventures great and small. Ludwig II, known in German as the »Fairy Tale King«, particularly appreciated the land and people of this region. In a tributary valley near Graswang, he had Schloss Linderhof built, the smallest of his world-famous royal palaces and the one in which he most liked to live.

His official duties in Munich were less enjoyable and city life did not please him at all. Tourists visiting today also find it hard to leave for the Ammertal is not only known for its culture. (The Oberammergau Passion Plays which have taken place every 10 years since 1633 are world famous.) The valley is also a wonderful part of the natural world enticing visitors to go hiking, climbing, power walking, mountain biking and paragliding. And the winter has plenty to offer to with skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing and sledging. If we were to list all the delights of nature and culture that Oberammergau can offer we would need more space.
